Most garages and storage sheds take the most time to get ready for a move because they are full of oddly shaped, sharp, or heavy items that need special care to pack properly.
Professional movers say to start by safely getting rid of things that can’t be shipped, like chemicals, fertilizers, oil, and gas. Next, arrange objects that are the same size or shape together, such as pruning shears and long-handled tools. To appropriately wrap and cushion belongings, make sure you have a variety of moving boxes and newsprint on hand.
Tools
Long-handled garden tools, brooms, and mops should be securely bundled together for moving. Ensure that attachments are removed from power tools and packed separately.
Hand tools can be left in toolboxes. Fill any empty spaces with crushed paper or follow our general packing rules. For heavy tools, always use small cartons to ensure easy handling.
To protect yourself and others, use old towels to wrap and tape any sharp-edged tools.
Rakes, Brooms, and Shovels
There’s no need to pack them individually. Our movers will gather them together and bundle them in protective padding.
Lawn and Patio Furniture
Remove cushions and clean the frames. Pack the pads in a large moving carton or wardrobe box to keep them secure.
Grill
Dispose of any unused charcoal from your grill and remove the tank, as it cannot be transported in the moving van.
Pots and Planters
Individually wrap small ceramic or pottery planters with plenty of cushioning, treating them as fragile items. For large or unusual planters, we recommend consulting with our moving professionals for the best approach.
